Kershaw, Bellinger and Dodgers ‘pen Make History

Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger, and the entire Dodgers bullpen made history Friday night as the Dodgers defeated the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in extra innings.

The Dodgers briefly took the lead in the NL West on Tuesday night only to lose the next two games to the Cardinals, sending them back down to 3rd by half a game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.  This deficit was also short-lived as the Dodgers regained control in last night’s historic victory.

Clayton Kershaw recorded his 2,000th strikeout becoming only the 79th pitcher of all time to join the “2,000 K Club.”  Kershaw ended his night with a spectacular 14 K’s allowing only 1 run on 2 hits in 7 innings.

Despite his historic game, the Dodgers were down 1-0 going into the 9th inning before Yasmani Grandal’s game-tying home run to send the game into extras.  Then, in the top of the 12th, Cody Bellinger blasted his 12th homerun of the season to put the Dodgers up 2-1, becoming the fastest Dodger to do so in only his 36th big league game.

Kenley Jansen recorded a 6-out save and struck out the 26th batter of the game to set a franchise record and help the Dodgers complete the trifecta of the night.  The Dodgers now have a record of 34-22 and are half a game ahead of the second place Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies (both 34-23).  The Dodgers look to extend their lead in the NL West this afternoon against the Brewers at 1:10pm PST.
