Ryu Leads Dodgers to Victory Over Nats

Hyun-Jin Ryu, 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA and 0.957 WHIP, took on Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals in the second game of a best of three series at Dodger Stadium tonight.  Ryu, looking to continue his impressive start to the season, would improve to 3-0 through 4 starts by pitching 7.0 shut out innings allowing only 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 8 enroute to a 4-0 victory.

2nd Inning

The Dodgers would get on the board early with a solo home run by birthday boy, Joc Pederson, to put them ahead 1-0.

7th Inning

The 1-0 lead would hold until the bottom of the 7th inning when Kiké Hernández would scorch a two-out solo shot to left field to increase the Dodgers’ lead 2-0.

8th Inning

With one out in the bottom of the 8th inning, Yasmani Grandal would draw a walk on a 3-1 count that would bring Cody Bellinger to the dish.  Bellinger, not wanting to disappoint on his bobble-head night, would crush an 0-2 pitch to the right-field seats to give the Dodgers a 4-0 lead and put the game on ice.

Kenley Jansen would come in relief in the top of the 9th inning in a non-save situation and retire Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman on pop-flies and, two batters later, get Matt Wieters to strike out to end the game.  The Dodgers (9-10) will look for the series win tomorrow evening with Alex Wood facing Jeremy Hellickson beginning at 5:05 pm PST.
